The radio looks really cool. It has a nice big screen, and while Pioneer
continues to go with the whole blue glow look, the screen now adds the ability
to show many other colors.
The bluetooth works great on this radio, and this was a huge reason I wanted
to get it. It connected to my Droid easily, downloaded my phonebook, and is a
breeze to use.
The Bad -
The worst thing of all is how Pioneer decided to change how to use presets on
the radio and XM. It used to be all you had to do was press up or down on the
joystick (MC) and it would take you through your presets. Not anymore. Now,
you have to press up which brings you to a menu of all of your presets. You
then have to scroll down to find the one you want and then press in the joystick
(MC). To make matters worse, using the HD radio addon, it doesn't even tell you what the
station is in the menu, it just says "Preset 1". So you have to memorize what
you have saved where. To me this was a stupid idea. Give the user the ability
to scroll quickly through their presets.
This unit is really only made for iPods, iPhones, or the iTouch. All of the cool
things you see displayed on it can ONLY be obtained through the use of an
Apple product.
Pandora - Can only be accessed by an Apple product.
Album art work - Can only be accessed by an Apple product. If you use a USB
drive, it will only show a musical note as the artwork even if you have your file
tagged correctly.
Only upside is that Pioneer now allows you to shuffle within a folder which they
had removed or butchered in previous headsets.
As someone who despises Apple and their products I find that I have no use for
this product anymore and am going to sell it. So beware if your interested that
you need to have an Apple product to really enjoy this.
Conclusion -
I like the radio a lot. It looks really cool. It interacts well. The joystick has been
improved. And it has a ton of new options. Unfortunately, Pioneer seems to
have forgotten some of the basics of radio operation... like scrolling through
presets rather than going through menus.
