Had this installed a bit over a week or so. Might seem premature to review, but have used it pretty extensively so far so feel I can give some insight. Overall the system is pretty nice for an all in one package if you want home theatre with a few more features. If you are building the ultimate home theatre and want the ultimate knock you out of your seat sound, then you would not be looking at an all in one package anyway so here goes with my opinions/findings so far for the average user.
System is pretty simple to hook up. Has good connections, instruction manual on CD is sort of a pain as I ended up printing off quite a bit so that I could take the instructions on setting and playback into the room where the system was set up. Sound is good, voice is nice and clear and gives good response (slight dip in upper bass/lower mid range, but that comes from speaker size etc. Not ideal, but adjusted the receiver crossover to help smooth this on the Sub. Music plays nicely, movies are very good. No real complaints. Should get better sounding as it wears in more. Works just fine for the 16 x 14 room I have it in. As I said, not a knock you out of your seat system like is some mega theatre, but plenty of good sound for watching movies at home.
Down side for me on the system was (verified by instruction manual) if you hook up a regular dvd or the like using component (because it is not HDMI capable) then you have to run a component output. So, not just a single HDMI hook up to the TV for everything. Does group input types together though. What I mean by that is if you have two HDMI pieces you can hook them to the receiver and output over a single HDMI cable. If you have multiple component hook up pieces of equipment you can output those out of a single component output etc.
Not a super big deal to me you just need to be aware you need extra cables if you have different pieces of equipment with different connections.
Not a huge fan of the remote. Lot of buttons that are fairly organised, but some are very tiny and not in the most useful spot. Also, some things could be done better in my opinion.
An example would be the dock that comes with it that can play a 5th gen nano ipod. Used the plate adaptor that came with the nano to mount the ipod to the dock. Receiver recognises it and you press dock you can play the ipod, BUT you have to find the display button and press that also in order to control the ipod from the remote and have song, artist etc. display on the receiver. I found this a bit off as, for me, when you push the dock button on the remote it would be much simpler to have it automatically switch to receiver control instead of having to go the extra step on the remote. I guess not a big deal to most, but I can't envision my running over to the ipod to change songs, artist etc. when I have a remote handy that can do it from where ever I happen to be sitting.
Also, the remote does not have a light function. As such, in our darkened setting for watching on our home theatre, it is a bit of a fumble about to find the right button if you want to change anything. Volume is simple enough, but if you want to control a blueray or perform other functions then I find myself tilting the remote trying to catch some light off the tv screen or having to get up and turn a light on to see the buttons to push.
On programming the remote to run the blue ray and regular dvd I did find codes that worked (have to print out instructions and codes). Took a bit of figure out how to get them to set. You keep repeating the function series and then pushing in the code to see if it controls the item. You should get two flashing lights on the remote when it is programed to work. Some codes only did a few functions so you have to test everything and keep going with the next code if it does not control everything on the equipment. Where there was an issue was going to the next code. I wanted to set the large scene cd button to function for the standard dvd player and after the initial non op code tried I kept getting 6 flashing lights on the remote saying that programming had failed. Tried to do this a number of ways. Finally figured out I had to use the input buttons at the top section of the remote to get the code program and then set the function for that button to work on the cd button in the scene section (how to do this is covered in the print out instructions).
Only other bit of a gripe is that you have to remember to get up and turn the subwoofer on and off on the push button switch on the back. Wish it would auto switch when the receiver is turned on and off.
So, long review, but hope it helps. Sound wise the system works well for average user movies, tv, radio, ipod etc. Is a very good price for what you get (please watch out for similar systems sold for about this price, but they have switched the receiver for the lower line 367 model).
If I had to do again and was interested in an all in one box system then I'd still go this route and get this one. Seems good value for the money and think most will be happy with it.
